Quality Specialist:

Participates in the development of Quality Assurance/Improvement (QA/I)plans for associated technical areas. Supports the associated laboratory’s  nonconformance investigations (root cause analyses) and corrective and preventive actions.  Evaluates and supports that problem solving and corrective actions are thorough, timely, complete, and accurate.

Evaluates compliance with all associated policies, procedures, and regulations and communicates status to laboratory management and quality management. Leads continuous quality improvement activities.

Quality Specialist
– Medical Group:
  Provides services of a quality nature.  Participates in the development of Quality Assurance/Improvement (QA/I) plans for Medical Group CLIA Labs. Oversees quality control activities and coordinates quality assurance activities for the medical group, as well as performs quarterly audits. Evaluates and supports that problem solving and corrective actions are thorough, timely, complete, and accurate. Evaluates compliance with all
associated policies, procedures, and regulations and communicates status to medical group management, medical group quality management, as well as laboratory quality management. Trains super user trainers, so they may train
the medical group employees in quality lab testing.

Position Purpose:

The Clinical Laboratory Technical Specialist is responsible for operational and technical consistency for all pre-analytical, analytical and post analytical procedures for laboratory activities.

These include training, procedure maintenance, quality management, laboratory information systems and regulatory compliance.

The Clinical Laboratory Technical Specialist will use their skills in training and their experience and knowledge to provide continuous monitoring of analytical systems and staff to optimize Clinical Laboratory resulting The Clinical Laboratory Technical Specialist will provide the expertise needed to assist patient care providers, to provide bench level training, to evaluate work processes, to meet accreditation standards and to recommend process improvement activities. The Clinical Laboratory Technical Specialist is responsible for all delegated duties as defined by the Clinical Laboratory Services Supervisor(s). The Clinical Laboratory Technical Specialist is accountable to maintain operational quality.



Nature and Scope:

Renown Health is a 24-hour/7-days a week operation, providing laboratory services to an inpatient and outpatient population of all ages.

The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide quality and timely laboratory tests for a diverse patient population through appropriate organization of workload, completion of quality control procedures, proper specimen identification, and ensuring proper instrument/equipment operational status. Test results must be clearly reported to nursing and/or medical staff through direct communication or result entry by computer.

The incumbent is responsible for ensuring all allocated roles and duties are achieved as defined by the Clinical Laboratory Services Supervisor(s) and by state and federal regulations.

The incumbent ensures results are reported in the Laboratory Information System and keeps nursing personnel informed to assist in and expedite patient care. Notifies appropriate nursing personnel when a laboratory informational system or instrument is out of service.

The incumbent must consider the age of the patient when performing testing and releasing results. Must be able to communicate with a diverse patient population and their family when performing special procedures. Providing exceptional customer service is expected at all times.

The incumbent must be knowledgeable of and observe all safety requirements in a laboratory and hospital setting. Comprehensive knowledge must be maintained for all procedures that are required to be performed. Competency in work related skills must be demonstrated annually.

Minimum Qualifications:
  Requirements - Required and/or Preferred

Education:

  • Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university in Medical Technology, or a closely related field according to current applicable state and federal regulations.

Experience:

  • Minimum three years of Clinical Laboratory Scientist experience is required.

    Five years preferred

License(s):

  • A current State of Nevada Clinical Laboratory Scientist license as a General Supervisor is required within seven (7) months of hire.

Certification(s):

  • National certification as MT (ASCP) or equivalent is preferred.

Computer / Typing:

  • Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. Knowledge of Laboratory Information Systems.
